Why subscribe?
That’s a very good question. Especially these days, when in our “attention economy,” everyone is vying for your precious time. I can tell you I likely won’t be commenting on the news. Even though I’d have good reason to, being that I live in Ukraine for a portion of each year (and have since 2018). But there are plenty of well-informed people out there who can do that better than me, and with far more passion. What I can share passionately are Stories. Stories from my life, which you may or may not find interesting (though I belive even “uninteresting” stories can be brought to life with the right choice of words, and the right perspective), and some stories that born, at least partly, from my imagination. I love to write, and even more, I love trying to cobble together some words that can entertain… enlighten… uplift… Maybe all three? I’ll sometimes share with you a source my current inspiration, be it a book, a poem, a place, or a person. I’ve also spent the last 15 years working working as a photo-editor and photographer for National Geographic (plently of stories there), so oftentimes my writing will be accompanied by my photos. I just can’t help it. And from time to time the photos themselves may be the story.
My whole life I’ve been told I was a good storyteller. It’s a tradition that I love. I can’t count the number of dinner tables I’ve shared with family, friends, and fellow travelers in this life, swapping tales until we laugh so hard we cry, or cry so hard we laugh. It may not be a beautifully set table, replete with a fine meal (and some fine wine), but I’d love to share this space with you and share some tales. I hope you’ll join.
